THE RESISTANCE ART PROJECT

All my life, I’ve worked to protect our natural environment, to preserve the most special places for all to enjoy, and recently, to prevent the very demise of our planet. New federal policies which deny science and common sense, will increase habitat destruction and species extinctions, speed up climate change, and allow industries to pollute our air and water. Everything I love is under threat, and I know many of you share my concerns. I also know it is easy to feel isolated, or helpless. But we are not alone. We saw that on April 5th, when people came out across the country in small towns and big cities alike, to protest.

In recent years my artwork has illustrated warnings about overpopulation and its ramifications of climate change, mass species extinctions, and a host of ills affecting humans. While those dire warnings are necessary, we also need to occasionally take a breather, and find something to be joyful about in order to return to the resistance effectively.

Thus, I am launching the Resistance Art Project—a series of my artworks combined with comments from around the country—art and words coming together to provide a place of refuge, joy, contemplation, and community.

Each week I will release a new artwork. There will be one original numbered 1/1 for sale and one exhibition print.

The one that is for sale will only be available to someone who has left a thoughtful comment on this website or my Facebook page.

Please leave comments (150 words or less) about what is affecting you, how you are feeling, what actions you are taking, and if you wish, what this particular piece of artwork offers to you. You have one week from each posting made on a Tuesday, to make your comments.

I will then select the comment that moves me the most and invite the writer to purchase the artwork at whatever price they can afford, with half being donated to a resistance organization or candidate of their choice.

Selected writings will be paired with the artworks in an ever-expanding ebook accessible on this website, and with the exhibition prints whenever they are shown. This will become a national diary collectively documenting our individual lives as we move through these historic times.

More about the artworks: Images will be derived from original photographs of reflections of waves on Lake Superior. These will often be a combination of 2 or more captures, the layering mirroring the complexity and diversity that makes America so wonderful. Each piece will have an image size of 26×26 inches printed with archival pigment inks on 36×36 inch Hahnemuhle Hemp paper. They will be signed and numbered below the image, and “THE RESISTANCE ART PROJECT” and the date will be written near the bottom margin. The prints will be shipped to you, or you can pick them up in person at Blacklock Gallery, 521 Folz Blvd. in Moose Lake, MN.

My normal price for a print this size in an edition of 1 is $1100. If your writing is selected, and all you can afford is $50 then the print will be yours for $50—the amount is up to you, with no minimum, and no judgment. If you can afford more than $1100, please pitch in to help make this project possible, and to help raise additional money for the resistance movement. Again, the amount is totally up to you.

Finally, please help spread the word about this project by sharing it with others. Thank you! Together, we will pull each other up and right the wrongs that are taking place.
