Resistance Art Project
1Above are the beginning pages of the RESISTANCE ebook. Open it here. Below is the Resistance Art Project’s image #22 from 10/28. Email your comments to me at craig@blacklockgallery.com by 6 pm 11/3/2025. If your comment is selected, you will be able to purchase the print shown below (valued at $1100) at whatever price you can afford, with half going to the cause or candidate of your choice. Read below for full details.
I have given some thought to what is happening, and it is as if Trump is using Whiteout, the thick white substance we used to use to cover up typos, to get rid of American history, the Constitution, and people of color.
So, this week’s print is the first to feature “white” as the dominant positive color within the image
This image was created from two photographs of reflections on Lake Superior waves. The image size is 26×26 and is printed on 36×36-inch paper. Only one copy is for sale, numbered 1/1 and signed in pencil in the margin. The print comes unframed, but is shown below as a framing suggestion. The image below that is a detail from the photograph.
All my life, I’ve worked to protect our natural environment, to preserve the most special places for all to enjoy, and recently, to prevent the very demise of our planet. New Republican Administration policies that deny science and common sense will increase habitat destruction and species extinctions, speed up climate change, and allow industries to pollute our air and water. Everything I love is under threat, and I know many of you share my concerns. I also know it is easy to feel isolated or helpless. But we are not alone—our values are held by the majority of Americans, and together we can prevail. We saw that on April 5th, when people came out across the country in small towns and big cities alike to protest Republican policies.
In recent years, my artwork has illustrated warnings about overpopulation and its ramifications of climate change, mass species extinctions, and a host of ills affecting humans. While those dire warnings are necessary, we also need to occasionally take a breather and find something to be joyful about in order to return to the resistance effectively.
Thus, I am creating the Resistance Art Project—a series of my artworks combined with comments from around the country—art and words coming together to provide a place of joy, contemplation, community, and empowerment.
Each week I will release a new artwork. There will be one original numbered 1/1 for sale and one exhibition print.
The one for sale will only be available to someone who has emailed me a thoughtful comment at craig@blacklockgallery.com.
Please leave comments (150 words or less) about what specific things are affecting you, how you are feeling, or what actions you are taking, and if you wish, what this particular artwork offers you. You have one week from each posting made on a Tuesday to make your comments.
We will then select the comment that moves us the most and invite the writer to purchase the artwork at whatever price they can afford, with half being donated to a resistance organization or candidate of their choice. This progressive pricing structure is similar to a food shelf or our tax system, where people pay based on their income.
Selected writings (edited for clarity and length) will be paired with the artworks in an ever-expanding ebook accessible on this website, and with the exhibition prints whenever they are shown. This will become a national diary collectively documenting our lives as we move through these historic times.
More about the artworks: Images will be derived from original photographs of reflections of waves on Lake Superior. These will often be a combination of 2 or more photographs mirroring the complexity and diversity that make America so wonderful. Each piece will have an image size of 26×26 inches printed with archival pigment inks on 36×36 inch Hahnemuhle Hemp paper. They will be signed and numbered below the image, and “THE RESISTANCE ART PROJECT” and the date will be written near the bottom margin. The prints will be shipped to you, or you can pick them up in person at Blacklock Gallery, 521 Folz Blvd. in Moose Lake, MN.
My normal price for a print this size in an edition of 1 is $1100. If your writing is selected, and all you can afford is $100, then the print will be yours for $100—the amount is up to you, with no minimum, and no judgment. If you can afford more than $1100, please pitch in to help make this project possible and to help raise additional money for the resistance movement. Again, the amount is totally up to you.
Finally, please help spread the word about this project by sharing it with others. Thank you! Together, we will pull each other up and right the wrongs..
